Children’s playgrounds are among the most important spaces for learning, development and social interaction. They are places where children explore the world, build friendships and create lasting memories. That is why DZI volunteers in Gabrovo chose to focus their efforts on refreshing the playground of Mickey Mouse Kindergarten in the Mladost neighbourhood.

Located in one of the city’s largest residential districts, the kindergarten welcomes many children every day. Its outdoor facilities are used extensively for play, exercise and educational activities, making regular maintenance and improvements especially important.

During the initiative, volunteers repainted and refreshed the playground equipment, giving the space a brighter and more welcoming appearance. The work required dedication, attention to detail and teamwork, but the results were visible by the end of the day.

The renewed playground now offers a more pleasant environment for children, encouraging active outdoor play and creating a more enjoyable space for both educators and families. Bright colours and refreshed facilities help make the area more inviting and contribute to a positive atmosphere for everyday activities.

Although the project may appear modest in scale, its impact is significant. The quality of the environment where children spend their time plays an important role in their well-being, comfort and overall experience. Every improvement contributes to creating a better place for learning and play.

The initiative is another example of how volunteering can have a direct and lasting impact on local communities. The efforts of a handful of dedicated volunteers will continue to benefit children for years to come.

Most importantly, the project demonstrates that positive change often begins close to home. When people choose to invest their time and energy in improving their own communities, the results create value for everyone who shares those spaces.
