When Goodness Takes Root: Volunteers and Pupils Plant Trees in Pazardzhik
21 октомври 2026
On 16 October, “Unexpected Goodness” continued in the schoolyard of Vasil Drumev Primary School in Pazardzhik with an initiative bringing together volunteering, care for nature and the active participation of children.
Volunteers joined fourth-grade pupils in planting trees in the school grounds. The children’s involvement gave the initiative an additional meaning. Rather than simply observing a change to their school environment, they became active participants in creating it.
Planting a tree is an action whose impact extends far beyond a single volunteer day. The newly planted trees will continue to grow alongside the children and gradually become part of the schoolyard landscape.
For the pupils, the initiative was also an opportunity to experience first-hand how caring for nature begins with practical action. A young tree planted today will require care and attention in the years ahead. In this way, the project leaves behind more than a greener schoolyard. It creates a personal memory of helping shape the environment around them.
This is one of the strengths of “Unexpected Goodness”: the programme does more than improve spaces. It brings people from different generations together around causes that can create lasting value.
And perhaps the most meaningful part is still to come. Year after year, the trees will grow, serving as a reminder that a positive change can begin with something as simple as planting a young tree, while its impact can remain for years.
