DZI is the only insurer in the history of the “Insurer of the Year” awards to have received both distinctions in the same year.

DZI is the major winner of the 18th edition of Bulgaria’s most prestigious awards competition in the insurance and pension insurance sector: “Insurer of the Year”, “Pension Insurance Company of the Year”, and “Insurance Broker of the Year.” Celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, the company won the “Insurer of the Year” award in both leading categories, General Insurance and Life Insurance, a distinction that further reinforces DZI’s leading position in the Bulgarian insurance market.

The award in the General Insurance category was presented to Kosta Cholakov, Chairperson of the Management Board and Chief Executive Officer of DZI, by Vasil Golemanski, Chairperson of the Financial Supervision Commission. The Life Insurance award was presented by Plamen Danailov, Deputy Chairperson of the Financial Supervision Commission. The awards were bestowed during the official ceremony held in Sofia on Insurance Day, 1 October.

The awards are yet another testament to DZI’s leadership in both general and life insurance and further recognition of the company as one of Bulgaria’s most established and widely recognised brands. Founded in 1946, DZI is the insurer with the longest history on the Bulgarian insurance market. Since 2007, the company has been part of the Belgian bancassurance group KBC.

Over the years, the company has repeatedly received recognition as Insurer of the Year through the country’s most prestigious industry awards. DZI is the only insurer to have won both “Insurer of the Year – General Insurance” and “Insurer of the Year – Life Insurance” in the same year on three occasions: 2011, 2013, and 2025.

The awards are organised by the University of Insurance and Finance (VUZF), the Association of Bulgarian Insurers, the Bulgarian Association of Supplementary Pension Security Companies, the Prof. Dr. Veleslav Gavriyski Foundation, and the Bulgarian Association of Insurance Brokers. The organisers recognise the best-performing insurers, pension insurance providers, and insurance brokers based on clear and competitive criteria that objectively assess their achievements during the preceding year.
